New Media+

Program Description

If you enjoy storytelling, writing and/or sports, this unique program is where you want to be. Upon completion of the program, students will have a broad understanding of and specific knowledge of media practices over a variety of topics covered under Noteworthy Events, Weather and Sports (NEWS). Comprehension will be obtained in various media forms including digital, print, social media, radio, television and other platforms. Skills developed in the program will give students an advantage to pursue a number of related careers at a collegiate level while also opening doors for potential employment post-graduation.

The New Media+ program at Tri-County Career Center provides the tools needed to create content through writing, photography, podcasting, broadcasting and other forms of audio and video.

The curriculum focuses on delivering both base knowledge as well as in-depth techniques on storytelling through various formats. Students will be able to attend and cover events and experience different roles within a media organization to learn the production and distribution process. The program also offers customizable practices in application of skills learned.

Special projects may include podcasts/broadcasts, school features, video and audio highlight clips and shows and more. Internships may be available with local radio and television stations.

New Media+ utilizes its own professional website at www.sjnm360.com to publish student work. In addition, local media organizations may often reproduce and share content.
